The award winning event features 4 returning scare attractions (VITA NOVA, X4, Anarchy: Live and House of Clowns) with the mysterious Malefica new for 2021.
In addition to the scare attractions, this event also includes street theatre, a fire show, games, rides, food and a bar.
SPOILER ALERT! Our review does include brief descriptions of the scare attractions but there are no photos from inside them.
- Malefica (New for 2021) - A nicely themed pre-show sets up the story for the attraction, after which you enter the derelict remains of a church that once burnt down and is now inhabited by the spirits of vengeful nuns. It felt a bit repetitive, with the countless nuns popping out from behind the props throughout and it didn't do much else, but there's certainly potential for this one to develop, as it's such an established horror theme.
- VITA NOVA - The world is changing... You must conform... You must participate. Be warned, this is an extreme experience. You will be separated, you will be confined, you will crawl through tunnels, and you are likely get an actual electric shock! A highlight of this year's event, which pushes boundaries, and uses a wide variety of techniques to set your heart racing. The sets, effects, costumes and acting are all of a very high standard, and importantly there is a clear and compelling narrative.
- X4 - Descend to a complex series of subterranean tunnels hidden deep underground, via an elevator ride like no other. Once there you will uncover the secrets that lie within. It's a fast paced, intense and detailed scare maze. The inclusion of a pre-show greatly enhances this attraction, and there were some excellent new scenes, so it was once again a very immersive experience.
- Anarchy: Live - The newest season of Anarchy: Live is set to roll before the cameras, and you will be the star of the show! Enter the arena as contestants in this brutal game of cat and mouse, and pray you make it out alive. The ultimate fight for survival begins now. This scare maze wasn't as good as previous years, with the shortened experience consisting of one long line of people snaking up and down the strobe filled corridors.
- House of Clowns - Step inside a world of creepy clowns. It starts as a classic curtain maze but it's followed by an intense smoke and strobe section, with other elements of fun house and carnival too. It's a fairly standard maze, but it still works well if you are scared of clowns.
Trixxie and Chunk were back, stalking the event arena and posing for photos, but we did miss Frank who was absent from the fire shows. The overall atmosphere of the event felt a little bit off this year with a particularly rowdy crowd and an onsite police presence. The constant loud rock music didn't really help.
We were guests for the purposes of this review, and benefited from the Unlimited FEAR Pass which includes priority entry to the event, unlimited fast track entry into the scare attractions, and a VIP area with complimentary snacks and soft drinks. We would recommend this great package to make the most of your time at the event.
