Chessington's Bubbleworks Closing Down

It's the end of an era as the iconic Bubbleworks ride at Chessington World of Adventures will be closing down on 6th September 2016.

The popular family ride has been running at the theme park for 26 years, enjoyed by 32 million people and completed more than 15 million circuits. Fans will get the chance to take a part in an auction to own a part of the attraction.

To celebrate the memory of Bubbleworks, the park has created a mosaic of photos from families and friends who have experienced the ride over the years. Chessington are now calling for families and fans alike to share all their memories on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by posting their nostalgic pictures from the ride using #byebyebubbleworks.

The park has also added a new VIP Package to their existing range of VIP Experiences. The Bubbleworks Behind the Scenes Tour will run for a very limited time only, from 14th August - 4th September, perfect for those eager to get exclusive behind the scenes access to the ride plus all guests on the tour will receive a goody bag and brand new and exclusive Bubbleworks pop badge.

Guests visiting the park over the summer will also have the chance of taking a piece of Bubbleworks memorabilia home when the ride closes. Chessington will be revealing which props and elements of the ride are up for grabs in their silent auction in the coming weeks and guests will be able to email This email address is being protected from spambots. Originally opening in 1990 as Professor Burp's Bubble Works, the dark ride was designed by the legendary John Wardley, working with Sparks Creative Services on the construction and animations for each scene. Being located in the Transylvania area of the park, the initial concept was for a Bavarian brewery and this was developed into a magical fizzy pop factory. Siriol Animation created the original characters Professor Burp and the Bubbleheads. The musical score for the ride was composed and produced by Graham Smart.

It later became just Bubbleworks as part of a re-brand and re-theme in 2006 in partnership with Imperial Leather. The concept changed to a soapy factory tour, with updated sets and the introduction of the bath time scenes and rubber ducks. Further changes were made in 2014 when the sponsorship with Imperial Leather came to an end.

We'll be there on 6th September 2016 to say farewell to this classic UK dark ride, so keep an eye on our social media channels for live updates as we take our final tour.

A spokesperson from Chessington World of Adventures said:

The last public ride will be on Tuesday 6th September and we’ll be introducing something brand new and equally magical opening next year.

That is all we can say for now but rest assured it’s something we’re all very excited about and we’re sure you will be too.
